Self Image

When people tell you what they are, they tell you how they want to be seen as.
When people tell you what they're not, they tell you what they don't want to be, altough there's a good chance they already are.
Not necessarily true, to be continued/revised.

Foto Keluarga

Woman: Mas, tau ga, kemarin kan aku harus bawa foto keluarga untuk urus jamsostek. Lah seumur-umur saya ngga pernah foto keluarga, jadi kemarin saya bikin aja (sambil mengeluarkan sesuatu dari kantungnya).
Man: hahahahahaha... Mbak maksudnya foto keluarga buat jamsostek tuh pas foto setiap anggota keluarga.
*Ternyata si mbak tersebut mengajak keluarganya untuk foto keluarga di studio.

Blaming, not.

Me: I wonder why it took you so long to process this, your colleague just did the confirmation this morning, which IMO is a little too late.
Lady: pauses. I don't wanna blame anyone sir, but the bank's response is rather slow.
So I guess the lady at the other end didn't want to blame nor giving excuses, but given the circumstances, it was inevitable. She did not deliver. So there she goes, giving excuses by blaming. I can see that she has been trained to take ownership, to avoid giving excuses and blaming. The idea is there, but just like everything else in life, practice makes perfect.
Got me thinking though, I haven't done a lot to my team in that regard. Heck, I still need to practice it myself, a lot.

Tough day!

That's right, this has been a tough day. I'm telling you, getting several thousand dollars in few hours is no easy task. They say we get what we tolerate, so I think there's no one to blame but me for what happened today. It happened only because I allowed it to happen. I barely won the battle today, and while this is going long and tiring war, losing is not in my book. Either I win or I learn, and today while I had my small win, I learn, a lot!

Looking in perpective, today is still a wonderful day:
1. I (we) successfully got the much needed fund.
2. My father in law is back in Jakarta.
3. My wife got her iPad :D
4. My house renovation finally see some real progress.
5. I had a nice dinner with the family.

If those didn't make anyone's day great, I don't what can.

Peace.

Hello world!

Ahh... I have a blog, how about that? After googling for some time, I decided to try posterous as my blog site. Not sure what I'm doing, to tell you the truth, but I know what I'm trying to accomplish tho'.

The reason of my having a blog is to have a log, surprise. A log of ideas and thoughts. A way to jot down ideas and to record them. Ideas which otherwise would soon be forgotten before they materialize.

It is my hope that keeping a record my thoughts will help me to actually test them out, to realize some of them, or at least to find out what works, or doesn't. You know, the usual walk the talk thing, or is it walk the walk? You get my point. If in the process of doing so some of you find my posts useful, or at least interesting, i'll be overjoyed.

Unyamanya is something new and awkward for me, but as someone told me; "stretching is the solution for all life's problem", I believe that discomfort is the first step to growth.

So yeah, this might be a beginning something good for me, and if you're still reading this, maybe for you too, haha.

Peace out,

Marcel
